Pune | 29 March, 2026: The functioning of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has come under sharp criticism over its handling of public healthcare services, with activists and experts alleging that the civic body is focusing more on announcing new schemes rather than strengthening existing infrastructure.

Healthcare workers and policy observers have pointed out that several operational facilities across the city are not functioning at full capacity, despite repeated announcements of expansion and modernisation. Instead of addressing gaps in manpower, equipment, and service delivery, the administration is being accused of diverting attention toward launching new initiatives that remain largely on paper.

The criticism has intensified in recent weeks, with stakeholders describing the situation as an example of “neglecting the immediate for the aspirational.” Many believe that the civic body is “leaving what is in hand and chasing what is ahead,” a sentiment increasingly echoed among healthcare professionals working within the system.
