April 4, 2026 | Mumbai: Social activist Anjali Damania on Friday claimed that several prominent political figures, including ministers and senior leaders, had repeatedly contacted Ashok Kharat, the man currently in Special Investigation Team (SIT) custody in connection with allegations of sexual exploitation of women and financial fraud. Damania alleged that Maharashtra ministers Ashish Shelar and Chandrakant Patil, former education minister Deepak Kesarkar, and NCP state president and MP Sunil Tatkare were among those who made multiple calls to Kharat. She stated that she has obtained a copy of call detail records (CDR) linked to the case.
According to Damania, copies of the CDR have already been submitted to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Director General of Police Sadanand Date, and SIT chief Tejaswi Satpute, demanding a deeper probe into the alleged connections. She further claimed that former Maharashtra State Women’s Commission chairperson Rupali Chakankar made 177 calls to Kharat, while Chakankar’s sister Pratibha Chakankar reportedly made 236 calls. Damania described the figures as alarming, calling for transparency and accountability in the ongoing investigation.

Adding to the allegations, social activist Sushma Andhare also posted on X, claiming Rupali Chakankar spoke with Kharat for over 33,000 seconds, raising further political heat around the case. Damania also alleged that BJP minister Ashish Shelar made at least one call to Kharat, while Chandrakant Patil and NCP leader Sunil Tatkare reportedly made eight calls each. She said these communications raise serious questions given the nature of the accusations against Kharat. Another name mentioned by Damania was Deepak Lohe, described as a close aide of former minister Deepak Kesarkar. She claimed Lohe made 189 calls to Kharat and spoke for nearly 30,579 seconds.
Damania also stated that Kharat received calls from several foreign locations including Qatar, the UAE, Australia, Oman, and the US Virgin Islands, suggesting the possibility of a wider network. The SIT investigation is currently underway, and no official response has yet been issued by the leaders named in the allegations.
