PMRDA budget for 2026–27 remains pending despite being ready, as approval awaits the Chief Minister’s availability, raising concerns over delays in major development projects.

April 13 | Pune The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is yet to present its budget for the financial year 2026–27, even as the new financial year has already commenced. The delay comes despite officials confirming that the budget has been fully prepared and is awaiting final approval in a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister. As per procedure, the PMRDA budget requires approval from the Chief Minister, who serves as the authority’s chairperson. The meeting, however, is yet to be scheduled due to time constraints, leading to a delay in formal presentation and approval of the financial plan. Similar delays have been observed in the past as well, impacting timely execution of projects.
The proposed budget is expected to be in the range of ₹6,000 to ₹7,000 crore, with a strong focus on infrastructure development. Key allocations are likely to be directed towards metro expansion, ring road development, housing schemes, and water supply projects critical components of Pune’s growing urban landscape. Experts warn that any delay in budget approval could slow down these major projects, affecting timelines and increasing costs. The ring road project, in particular, remains a concern, as alignment changes have already impacted approvals of building plans for several years, creating uncertainty among residents and developers.

In addition, PMRDA is working on a new structural development plan after the earlier Development Plan was scrapped. This phased plan aims to address future population growth and infrastructure requirements more effectively, but it too depends on timely approvals and funding. As Pune continues to expand rapidly, delays in budget approvals highlight the administrative challenges in managing large-scale urban development. With several crucial projects hanging in the balance, stakeholders are now awaiting the scheduling of the meeting that will give the final go-ahead to the budget.
