April 14, 2026 | Mumbai: In a significant move aimed at overhauling the state’s recruitment framework, the Maharashtra cabinet has approved a series of reforms to make the hiring process more streamlined, transparent, and candidate-friendly. The decision includes the launch of the ‘Nipun Setu’ initiative under the MahaJobs portal, inspired by the model adopted by the Union Public Service Commission. The initiative seeks to benefit candidates who reach the final stages of selection conducted by the Maharashtra Public Service Commission but do not make it to the final merit list. Their profiles will now be shared with both public and private sector organisations, opening up alternative employment opportunities and ensuring that talent does not go unutilised.

As part of the broader reforms, the state will expand the number of service cadres under MPSC from the existing structure to 102, with the inclusion of 45 additional cadres. Furthermore, the combined examination scheme will now cover 18 new services and 93 cadres, reducing the number of separate examinations while increasing the number of available posts. In a bid to simplify recruitment, the government has removed the requirement of prior work experience for direct recruitment in several posts. Additionally, interviews will be scrapped for non-gazetted positions, a move expected to enhance fairness and reduce subjectivity in the selection process.

The cabinet has also approved the use of DigiLocker for document verification, allowing candidates to submit academic records, caste certificates, and other credentials digitally. This step is expected to speed up verification and reduce paperwork. Officials said the reforms will lead to a more structured and time-bound recruitment process, while also addressing inconsistencies across various departments. The restructuring will further classify administrative and technical cadres to improve efficiency.
