April 14, 2026 | Mumbai: In a significant policy push, the Maharashtra government, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, has approved a series of key decisions aimed at administrative reform and infrastructure development during a cabinet meeting held on April 13. A major highlight of the meeting was the expansion of service categories under the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC). The number of categories will rise sharply from 53 to 153, with the recruitment process set to be streamlined on the lines of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The state will implement these reforms through the MahaJobs portal, making hiring more transparent and efficient.
In the energy sector, the cabinet approved the transfer of four acres of land in Kulganv-Badlapur to Tata Power, a move expected to support infrastructure expansion and strengthen power distribution in the region. Boosting higher education and skill development, the government also cleared the establishment of an IES Skill Tech University in Mumbai, aimed at enhancing industry-relevant training and employability for students. The cabinet further sanctioned ₹61.24 crore under the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to improve basic facilities for fishermen in coastal districts, focusing on infrastructure and livelihood support.

In healthcare, a substantial ₹3,708 crore funding assistance from Japan International Coo eration Agency (JICA) has been approved to strengthen medical infrastructure and services across the state. Additionally, six districts Hingoli, Jalna, Palghar, Beed, Dhule, and Parbhani have been included in the NITI Aayog aspirational districts programme, increasing the total coverage to 177 talukas. This move is expected to accelerate development in underperforming regions through targeted interventions. Officials said these decisions collectively aim to drive growth, improve governance, and create new opportunities across sectors in Maharashtra.
