April 15, 2026 | Pune A major water crisis has unfolded in the Undri and Mohammadwadi areas of Pune after private water tanker operators suspended their services, leaving over 100 housing societies without access to essential water supply. The disruption began yesterday morning and has since severely impacted daily life for thousands of residents. The situation has highlighted the heavy dependence of these localities on private tanker services due to the absence of a fully functional pipeline network. Despite being merged into the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits, many of these areas continue to rely on alternative water sources for their daily needs.

By early morning, several housing societies reported that their stored water had been completely exhausted. Residents described a growing sense of distress as families were forced to ration whatever little water remained, prioritising drinking needs over cooking, sanitation, and other essential uses. The crisis has been particularly difficult for senior citizens and patients who require regular access to water.

Citizens have raised concerns over what they describe as prolonged neglect of infrastructure development in newly added areas. Many pointed out that despite paying taxes, they have been compelled to depend on costly tanker services for years due to the lack of a reliable municipal supply system. Officials from the PMC acknowledged the situation, with the water department stating that a decision would be taken soon. However, the absence of immediate relief has further fuelled frustration among residents.

The crisis has also sparked strong reactions from citizens, some of whom have criticised authorities for failing to anticipate or manage such disruptions. At the same time, residents clarified that their concerns are directed at the lack of civic infrastructure rather than the tanker operators themselves. With no quick resolution in sight, affected societies are now planning protests to demand urgent intervention and a long-term solution to the recurring water supply issues.
