Bhor to Emerge as Major Food Manufacturing Hub, CM Devendra Fadnavis Signals Big Push

April 17, 2026 | Pune: Maharashtra is planning a major industrial boost for the Pune region, with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis indicating that Bhor could soon emerge as the state’s next big food manufacturing and export cluster. The announcement signals a strong push toward strengthening the food processing sector and promoting Maharashtra’s traditional food industry on a global scale.

The proposal was discussed during the inauguration of a modern food manufacturing facility by Chitale Bandhu in Ranje village near Bhor. At the event, the Chief Minister stated that the government will study the feasibility of developing Bhor as a dedicated food processing hub or even a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) focused on exports.

According to officials, the idea is to create an ecosystem where food products manufactured in the region can be processed, packaged, and exported internationally. If implemented, this could significantly boost local industries, create employment opportunities, and strengthen rural economies around Bhor and nearby areas.

Fadnavis highlighted that food can act as India’s “soft power” globally, pointing out the diversity and richness of Indian cuisine. He emphasized that with proper packaging, hygiene standards, and global compliance, traditional regional food products can compete in international markets.

The move also aligns with Maharashtra’s broader industrial strategy. In recent years, the state government has been actively promoting sector-specific manufacturing hubs—from EV manufacturing in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to defence hubs in Nagpur and Nashik. The focus now on food processing indicates a shift toward leveraging traditional industries along with modern infrastructure.

Bhor’s selection is not случай. The region has strong potential due to its proximity to Pune, availability of land, and growing industrial infrastructure. Additionally, the presence of established food brands like Chitale Bandhu gives it a solid foundation to evolve into a larger cluster. The recently inaugurated “Vision Park” facility is expected to serve both domestic and international markets, further strengthening the region’s industrial profile.

Industry stakeholders believe that if the plan moves forward, it could transform Bhor into a key node in Maharashtra’s food supply chain—from production to export. It may also encourage small and medium enterprises (SMEs), farmers, and local entrepreneurs to participate in value-added food processing activities.

However, experts point out that successful execution will depend on several factors, including infrastructure development, policy support, logistics, and incentives for investors. Ensuring consistent quality standards and building export-ready supply chains will be crucial for the cluster to succeed globally.
