April 17 | Pune: Pune is set to host the prestigious Asia Oceania B1 Junior Tennis Championships from April 20 to 25, 2026, marking the tournament’s return to India after a gap of five years. The matches will be played at the iconic Deccan Gymkhana tennis courts, which will host the event for the second time. The tournament, one of the most significant junior tennis events in the region, is being organised by the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association and Deccan Gymkhana, under the aegis of the International Tennis Federation, Asian Tennis Federation, and All India Tennis Association.
This year’s championship will see participation from more than 120 players representing 15 countries across Asia and Oceania. Competitions will be held in both boys’ and girls’ categories, featuring singles and doubles matches. Each category will follow a 32-player draw format, including direct entries, qualifiers, and wild card participants.
Apart from the competitive aspect, the tournament offers significant ranking incentives. Winners will earn 300 ITF points, while runners-up will receive 210 points, and entry-level participants will secure 30 points. Importantly, champions will also gain eligibility for entry into Junior Grand Slam events, making this tournament a crucial stepping stone for aspiring tennis stars.

Maharashtra has a strong legacy in tennis, having produced notable players such as Nirupama Mankad, Sandeep Kirtane, and Rutuja Bhosale. The upcoming event is expected to provide valuable international exposure to Indian players and further strengthen the region’s presence in global tennis.
