Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat publicly confirmed she is among six complainants against Brij Bhushan Singh, raising concerns over fair trials and safety as legal proceedings and wrestling trials continue.

New Delhi | 04 May 2026: In a significant development in the ongoing case against former Wrestling Federation chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has publicly revealed that she is one of the six women who had filed sexual harassment complaints against him.

The case, which has been under judicial scrutiny, is currently in the stage of recording witness statements. Until now, the identities of the complainants had largely remained undisclosed, in line with legal safeguards and guidelines aimed at protecting victims’ privacy.

In a video shared on social media, Phogat explained that she had earlier chosen to keep her identity confidential to allow the legal process to proceed without influence. However, she stated that certain circumstances prompted her to speak openly now. Referring to established legal norms, she acknowledged that revealing a complainant’s identity is generally discouraged to preserve dignity and privacy, but said she felt compelled to clarify her position.

Phogat had emerged as a prominent face during the 2023 protests held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, where several wrestlers demanded action against Singh. Her latest statement has once again brought the issue into public focus. She also raised concerns regarding the conduct of upcoming wrestling trials in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh. According to Phogat, the location falls within Singh’s sphere of influence, as the events are reportedly being organised at a private college linked to him. She questioned whether athletes would receive a fair and unbiased platform under such circumstances.

Expressing apprehension about safety, Phogat stated that if any harm were to come to her or her team during the national ranking competitions, the responsibility would lie with the authorities. She further alleged that aspects such as match handling, scoring, and officiating could potentially be influenced. The revelations are likely to intensify scrutiny around the ongoing legal proceedings and the functioning of wrestling administration in the country.
