May 14, 2026 | Mumbai: In a significant move to ensure the grand success of the upcoming Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a comprehensive financial package and infrastructure plan during a review meeting at Sahyadri Guest House on Wednesday. The Chief Minister declared that each Akhada (religious sect) will receive ₹5 crore for upgrading facilities, while smaller religious institutions will be granted ₹15 lakh each. Furthermore, the government will settle electricity bills through designated authorities and has promised either fair compensation or alternative land if any Akhada-owned property is acquired for public work.

The meeting, attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, underscored the government’s commitment to a seamless event. Deputy CM Eknath Shinde emphasized that there would be “zero compromise” regarding the security of millions of devotees. A centerpiece of the development plan is the ₹665-crore “Trimbakeshwar Darshan Path Project,” designed to eliminate congestion. This project features the ‘Shiv Darshan Sankul,’ a massive complex capable of housing 9,000 pilgrims, equipped with air-conditioned halls, LED screens, and an AI-based crowd management system that allows for an emergency evacuation within just five minutes.

Architecturally, the new constructions will honor tradition, utilizing black stone in the classic Maratha style. The project aims to reduce city traffic congestion by 80% while ensuring the rehabilitation of local vendors. With the first phase allocated ₹275 crore and the second phase ₹390 crore, the administration is racing against time to transform the holy city into a world-class pilgrimage hub. The Chief Minister’s directives reflect a balanced approach between spiritual heritage and modern urban management, ensuring that the sanctity of the Kumbh Mela is matched by state-of-the-art administrative efficiency.
