Gokul Dairy Administration to Decide on Milk Price Hike in Crucial Meeting Tomorrow

The Gokul Milk Union administration will meet this Saturday to discuss potential increases in milk procurement and retail prices following recent price hikes by major competitors like Amul and Mother Dairy
Kolhapur | May 15, 2026: The Kolhapur District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, popularly known as Gokul, is set to hold a high-stakes meeting tomorrow, May 16, to deliberate on a revised pricing structure for milk. This development comes on the heels of Amul and Mother Dairy increasing their retail prices starting Thursday, May 14, citing a sharp rise in production, packaging, and transportation costs.

As the previous Board of Directors’ term has concluded, Gokul is currently managed by an appointed Board of Administrators. Consequently, the responsibility of balancing the interests of milk producers—who are demanding higher procurement rates due to rising fodder costs and consumers now rests with the administrative body. While private players have already adjusted their rates, Gokul has maintained its current pricing, creating significant anticipation among stakeholders regarding tomorrow’s outcome.
Beyond price adjustments, the Board of Administrators will address more than a dozen formal requests and petitions submitted over the past ten days. These documents range from demands for increased transparency in union operations to specific inquiries regarding institutional data. The board is expected to finalize which information will be disclosed to the concerned parties during this session.

For the millions of households in Western Maharashtra and Mumbai that rely on Gokul milk, the decision reached in this meeting will have a direct impact on monthly budgets. Simultaneously, dairy farmers are hopeful that a procurement price hike will offset the thinning profit margins in the dairy sector.
