MSRTC Pune Division Launches 10 New ‘Jijau’ Shuttle Buses on Swargate-Baramati and Nira Routes

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation’s Pune division has inducted ten advanced 56-seater ‘Jijau’ buses into its operational fleet to enhance regional connectivity.

May 18, 2026 | Pune: In a major boost to regional public transit, the Pune division of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) officially inducted ten brand-new ‘Jijau’ buses into its operational fleet on Saturday, May 16. The high-capacity vehicles arrived at the Pune divisional headquarters following a policy directive by State Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik. Aimed at easing the daily commute for thousands of passengers, the administration immediately dispatched the entire consignment to the Baramati sector to commence scheduled operations.

To ensure balanced route optimization, the divisional traffic office split the ten incoming units equally between two major transit hubs. The Baramati Depot received five vehicles, which have been deployed strictly to run shuttle services on the busy Baramati–Nira corridor. The remaining five units were allocated to the Baramati MIDC Depot, dedicated to servicing the high-demand Swargate to Baramati MIDC route. This fleet expansion follows the successful pilot run of the first ‘Jijau’ bus, which was introduced on the Swargate–Baramati route two months ago.

Designed specifically to handle high-density industrial and commuter corridors, these new shuttle buses feature a modified ‘3 by 2’ seating configuration, accommodating 56 passengers per trip. Addressing escalating transit safety standards, the MSRTC has integrated advanced Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance networks inside all vehicles to ensure maximum security, particularly for solo female travelers. Divisional Traffic Officer Kamlesh Dhanrale confirmed that the high-frequency shuttle framework is specifically calibrated to reduce transit wait-times, reaffirming the department’s commitment to delivering premium, time-efficient, and secure point-to-point public transport.
