Addressing rumors of an impending fuel shortage, the state administration has confirmed that logistics networks remain fully robust, cautioning that artificial demand spikes from anxious motorists could temporarily strain local retail distribution grids.

MUMBAI | May 21, 2026: The Government of Maharashtra has officially dismissed widespread rumors regarding a state-wide fuel shortage, appealing directly to the public to completely halt panic buying at petrol pumps. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis clarified that the regional supply chain for petroleum products remains fully intact and resilient, attributing any localized delays purely to an artificial and sudden surge in retail demand driven by unsubstantiated social media speculation.

Speaking to journalists, Fadnavis explained that oil marketing companies systematically maintain fuel reserves at dispensing stations based on precise, historical monthly and daily consumption algorithms unique to each district. When citizens react to unverified claims by aggressively hoarding fuel or topping off vehicle tanks unnecessarily, it creates an immediate logistical imbalance that disrupts standard replenishment schedules. The administration emphasized that brief dry spells at individual outlets indicate a rapid depletion of localized retail stocks due to panic, rather than an absolute depletion of state or national energy reserves.

The government also verified that essential services and law enforcement departments face absolutely no operational fuel deficits. Commenting on a widely reported incident in Nagpur where a police officer allegedly refused assistance by falsely claiming a departmental diesel shortage, Fadnavis confirmed that strict disciplinary action has already been initiated against the personnel for highly irresponsible conduct. The state reiterated that while global energy conditions remain complex, domestic supply corridors have been meticulously secured to withstand external pressures.

Shifting to broader economic issues, Fadnavis highlighted recent analytical statements made by veteran leader Sharad Pawar regarding the Prime Minister’s international state visits. Defending the strategic value of these diplomatic missions against political critics, Fadnavis underscored that the long-term bilateral and trade agreements secured during these overseas tours have successfully insulated India’s economic and energy security for the next fifteen to twenty years, validating the call for constructive, non-partisan assessments of foreign policy.
