Land Records Department to Recruit 1,500 Private Land Surveyors Across Maharashtra
The Land Records Department will recruit 1,500 private land surveyors on a consolidated salary to expedite the land measurement process and clear pending applications within a month
Pune | May 22, 2026: To address the growing backlog of land measurement applications, the Maharashtra Land Records Department has decided to recruit 1,500 private land surveyors on a consolidated salary basis across the state. According to senior officials, the entire implementation cycle encompassing the formal selection process, mandatory technical training, and field deployment is projected to take approximately three months. Following deployment, the department aims to clear pending measurement requests within a strict one-month timeline.

The state government had previously approved a policy framework to empanel licensed surveyors and specialized surveying agencies in every district to optimize operational efficiency. Under this initiative, an external agency had already deployed 50 private surveyors in Pune district. However, considering the exceptionally high volume of unresolved applications in Pune city and its peripheral semi-urban zones, the department has sanctioned an additional 40 surveyors for the region, pushing the total local surveyor strength well over 200.

Elaborating on the scale of the state-wide expansion, Settlement Commissioner Dr. Shailesh Nawal stated that human resource allocations will be proportional to district size. Smaller administrative districts will receive an allocation of 50 private surveyors, whereas larger districts will be assigned 100 personnel to manage local workloads. All selections will be executed under a fixed, consolidated remuneration structure rather than traditional civil service pay scales.
Before beginning field operations, all newly recruited candidates must successfully complete a mandatory three-month technical training program at the department’s specialized training center in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. This rigorous curriculum will focus on advanced digital mapping tools, modern land measurement techniques, and regional land revenue regulations, ensuring that field operations maintain high accuracy and legal compliance once active surveying begins.
