The Pune Railway Division has completed the doubling work on the important Daund–Manmad railway route, marking a significant milestone for passenger and freight transportation across Maharashtra. Railway officials said the upgraded corridor is expected to reduce travel time by nearly 12 to 15 minutes for more than 30 passenger trains operating daily on the route once final approvals are granted.

The Daund–Manmad route, stretching approximately 236 kilometres, is considered one of Maharashtra’s most critical railway corridors as it connects Pune with northern and central parts of India through Ahmednagar and Nashik districts. The project is also expected to improve the movement of freight trains and enhance overall operational efficiency on the route.

Officials confirmed that the Visapur–Ranjangaon–Sarola section has now been fully doubled. However, the newly completed stretch is yet to be opened for regular railway traffic. The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) is scheduled to conduct a detailed inspection and speed trial of the section on May 30 before granting operational clearance.

Railway authorities stated that until now, several stretches on the route operated as single lines, forcing trains to halt frequently for crossings. With the completion of the doubling project, trains will no longer need to wait extensively at loop lines or stations for crossings, leading to smoother operations and improved punctuality.

The project, originally approved by the Union Cabinet in 2017, was undertaken to ease growing passenger and freight congestion on the corridor. Officials believe the doubled route will also increase carrying capacity and support future train frequency expansion.

Railway officials added that once the CRS grants approval, both passenger and freight train services will begin operating on the upgraded line, benefiting thousands of daily commuters and long-distance travellers across Maharashtra.
