Residents of Pune’s rapidly growing Kharadi locality have withdrawn their protest after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) assured them of a structured and time-bound action plan to address several long-pending civic issues in the area. The agitation had gained momentum over concerns related to poor infrastructure, traffic congestion, waterlogging and delayed development works affecting daily life in one of Pune’s major IT and residential hubs.

According to officials and local representatives, a detailed meeting was recently held between PMC authorities and members of various resident associations from Kharadi. During the discussion, civic officials reportedly presented an action roadmap covering road repairs, drainage improvements, traffic management measures and pending infrastructure projects

Residents had earlier raised strong objections over deteriorating road conditions, increasing traffic bottlenecks and recurring waterlogging during rains. Many citizens also expressed frustration over delays in civic work despite rapid urban development and rising population in the area. The protest had drawn attention from IT professionals, housing societies and local organisations demanding immediate intervention from civic authorities.

PMC officials assured residents that departments concerned have been instructed to complete specific projects within fixed timelines. Authorities also promised regular monitoring of ongoing works and improved coordination among various civic departments to avoid further delays.

Following these assurances, resident groups decided to temporarily suspend the agitation while closely monitoring the implementation of the proposed measures. Citizens stated that they would continue engaging with the civic administration to ensure commitments are fulfilled within the promised deadlines.

Kharadi has emerged as one of Pune’s fastest-growing commercial and residential corridors due to the expansion of IT parks and large-scale housing projects. However, residents have repeatedly highlighted the increasing pressure on civic infrastructure and transportation facilities in the area.

Officials indicated that additional infrastructure planning and traffic management initiatives may also be introduced in the coming months to support the locality’s growing population and commercial activity.
