Hadapsar Railway Station to Get Wider Approach Roads as PMC Begins Work

PMC has started preparatory work to widen roads leading to Hadapsar railway station, including utility shifting and road-widening markings.

Pune, September 23, 2026: Commuters travelling to and from Hadapsar railway station are set to get improved road access as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started preparatory work to widen the approach roads around the railway terminus.

The civic body has begun shifting underground utility lines, feeder boxes and electric poles that could obstruct the proposed road-widening work. The utility relocation work is estimated to cost around ₹1.45 crore. Marking for the proposed road widening has also started in the station area.

The move comes as the railway administration develops Hadapsar station as a terminus for long-distance trains. With the station’s role expanding, passenger movement has increased, while the existing approach roads and surrounding infrastructure have struggled to handle the growing traffic.

Narrow Roads, Limited Space for Public Transport

Commuters have faced difficulties because of narrow roads leading to the station and inadequate space for PMPML buses and autorickshaws.

The lack of sufficient parking and drop-off areas has also added to congestion, particularly when long-distance trains arrive or depart.

PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram visited the railway terminus last month to review infrastructure requirements and directed officials from the road development, special projects and other departments to accelerate improvement work in the area.

Utility Shifting Underway

The shifting of utilities is being treated as an initial step before the road-widening work progresses. PMC has also initiated the tender process for shifting underground utilities near Shastrinagar Chowk, where a grade separator is being developed.

The grade separator project has an estimated allocation of around ₹1.54 crore and is intended to improve traffic movement at the busy junction.

The road improvements are particularly significant as Hadapsar station is undergoing a broader transformation. Work on a fourth platform has also begun, with the upgraded station expected to support additional long-distance train services and higher passenger footfall.

The PMC’s road-widening initiative is therefore aimed at addressing the gap between the expanding railway infrastructure and the road network serving the station.

For commuters, the key expectation is that wider approach roads, improved public-transport space and better traffic management will eventually make access to Hadapsar railway station easier and safer. The pace of the final road-widening work will depend on utility relocation and subsequent project execution.
