A DJ-related allegation involving Narhe Police has raised questions as Pimpri-Chinchwad Police register 20 cases over noise violations during Ganeshotsav.

Pune, September 23, 2026: The use of loud DJ and Dolby sound systems during Ganeshotsav processions has triggered renewed debate in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, with questions being raised over an alleged DJ-filled procession involving Narhe Police, even as Pimpri-Chinchwad Police registered 20 cases for alleged violations of permissible noise limits during immersion processions.

The Narhe incident has drawn attention because police authorities had issued instructions to Ganesh mandals to follow noise-control norms and use traditional musical instruments during processions. Reports and videos circulating from the area have alleged that a procession associated with Narhe Police itself featured loud DJ music, including near a hospital. These allegations have prompted questions about whether the same rules were being followed by police personnel.

The allegation comes against the backdrop of heightened enforcement during this year’s Ganeshotsav. Pune police had urged organisers to avoid high-volume DJ and Dolby systems and comply with applicable noise restrictions.

20 Cases Registered in Pimpri-Chinchwad

In Pimpri-Chinchwad, police action intensified during the immersion processions. According to police, 20 cases were registered over alleged violations of prescribed noise limits.

The highest number of cases — nine — was registered by Sangvi Police Station. Other cases were registered by Talegaon Dabhade, Bhosari MIDC, Shirgaon, Talegaon MIDC and Bavdhan police stations.

Police said the action followed repeated instructions issued to Ganesh mandals and DJ operators before the festival. Officials had warned organisers that high-decibel sound systems could cause inconvenience to children, senior citizens, patients and other residents.

During the action, police seized equipment including DJ mixers, consoles, a light-control machine, laptops, speakers and a DJ set. Cases were registered against mandal office-bearers as well as DJ owners and operators in the relevant cases.

Earlier during Ganeshotsav, Pimpri-Chinchwad Police had also registered cases against mandals and sound-system operators for allegedly exceeding permissible sound levels during arrival processions. Police had seized music systems, loudspeakers, amplifiers, generators and vehicles in some of those cases.

Narhe Police Allegation Raises Questions

The reported Narhe procession has added another dimension to the ongoing debate. Reports allege that personnel associated with Narhe Police participated in a procession where DJ music was played, including near a hospital.

The allegation has led to questions about consistency in enforcement: if police are taking action against Ganesh mandals for violating noise restrictions, should the same standards apply to police-organised or police-associated processions?

The allegations and any responsibility of individual personnel would require verification through the police department’s own inquiry or other evidence. No conclusion about wrongdoing should be drawn solely from circulating videos or reports.

Enforcement vs Festival Celebrations

Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have indicated that enforcement will continue against organisers and sound-system operators who violate the prescribed norms during the remaining festival period. High-capacity DJ and sound systems had been prohibited at public places during the relevant restriction period.

With immersion-related celebrations continuing, the key issue now is whether noise-control rules will be applied consistently to Ganesh mandals, DJ operators and authorities alike.
