Pune MPSC Protest Enters Day Six: Police Issue Notices to 51 Students, 29 Coaching Centres
Pune MPSC protest enters Day 6 as police issue notices to 51 students and 29 coaching and study-centre operators over the ongoing agitation.
Pune: The protest by Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) aspirants in Pune has entered its sixth day, with Pune Police stepping up action against participants and those allegedly supporting the agitation.
Police have issued notices to 51 students and 29 coaching class and study-centre operators in connection with the ongoing protests. Authorities have warned that further legal action, including registration of criminal cases, could follow if the demonstrations continue without the required permission.
The protests are being held at three locations in Pune, including areas around S.M. Joshi Bridge, Lokmanya Tilak Chowk and Shastri Road. The protesters are raising several concerns regarding the functioning of the MPSC, examination procedures and recruitment, along with a demand concerning the commission’s chairman.
According to police, permission for the demonstrations had been denied, but the protests continued despite instructions to the organisers. Officials have therefore begun collecting video recordings and other evidence from the protest locations as part of the process for determining further action.
Police have also launched an inquiry into the use of a drone near the S.M. Joshi Bridge protest site. Authorities are attempting to identify who operated the drone and determine whether it was being used without the required permission.
The latest police action comes amid continuing dissatisfaction among MPSC aspirants over examination procedures, recruitment and the functioning of the commission. The agitation had earlier been linked to a broader set of demands raised by students, including transparency in the examination system and changes to recruitment-related processes.
The situation has also attracted political attention. Earlier, following discussions between Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and a delegation of MPSC students, the government had announced several assurances, including continuing MPSC examinations in offline mode and steps concerning recruitment and administrative reforms.
Meanwhile, police presence has been increased at the protest locations to prevent any law-and-order situation. The authorities have asked protesters and other concerned persons to comply with the directions issued by the police.
The developments mark a significant escalation in the standoff between MPSC aspirants and authorities as the student agitation continues in Pune.
