Accelerate Pre-Monsoon Desilting to Prevent Waterlogging, Urges Corporator Jyoti Gosavi

Corporator Jyoti Gosavi has directed municipal officials to expedite pre-monsoon cleaning of storm-water drains and canals across the Sinhagad Road area to ensure seamless water drainage before the rains.

Pune| May 13, 2026: With the monsoon season approaching, Corporator Jyoti Gosavi conducted a comprehensive field inspection of Ward No. 35 to review the progress of essential pre-monsoon maintenance. Surveying various critical junctions along Sinhagad Road, she issued strict directives to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) staff to finalize the desilting of canals and drainage lines immediately to prevent urban flooding.

The inspection covered several high-risk and residential pockets, including Mahadev Nagar, Tukai Nagar, Khoradvasti, and the canal area near Gosavi Vasti. Gosavi specifically focused on bottlenecks near Shanti Hotel Lane, Vastushilp Society in Vadgaon Budruk, and residential clusters like Jadhav Nagar and Vitthal Nagar. During the visit, she interacted with local residents to understand recurring drainage issues that lead to water entering homes during heavy downpours.

“The safety of citizens and their property is paramount. We must ensure that all boosting pumps are operational and that the rainy-water lines are cleared of debris and plastic,” Gosavi stated. She emphasized that the cleaning of major ‘nullahs’ (open drains) must be deep and thorough, rather than superficial, to accommodate the high volume of runoff expected in the coming months.

Accompanying her during the site visit were Section Engineers Nishant Chapekar and Pragya Dhamdhere, along with Abhijit Kadam and other community leaders. The engineers briefed the corporator on the current schedule, assuring that the deployment of machinery and manual labor has been scaled up. As Pune prepares for the seasonal shift, such localized oversight is seen as vital for the Sinhagad Road belt, which has historically faced challenges with water discharge and road-side clogging.
