India
In the first phase of operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport, Air India Express will link five domestic destinations, marking a major boost to connectivity in the Mumbai region.
Mumbai | October 29, 2025: India’s new aviation horizon is set to open as the Air India Group prepares to commence commercial operations from the newly constructed Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). The group’s low-cost unit, Air India Express, will initiate service by linking the airport to five domestic cities in its first phase.
The announcement follows the airport’s Phase 1 inauguration and coincides with plans to transform the region into a twin-airport system alongside the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). According to the airline group, the new routing from NMIA will significantly ease traffic congestion in Mumbai’s aviation corridor and offer travellers fresh options. While the full route list is yet to be disclosed, earlier statements from the Air India group projected initial operations connecting 15 cities with up to 20 daily departures from NMIA. Expansion plans envision 55 departures by mid-2026, including up to five international flights daily.

Airport and airline officials say the launch marks a “milestone” in the region’s connectivity strategy. Passengers should note that regular schedules and destination announcements will follow closer to the launch date. Meanwhile, infrastructure and ground-transit links are being upgraded to match the heightened operational activity forecast for the new facility.
