Pune, October 03, 2025: In a candid revelation, Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar disclosed a disturbing incident involving his 13-year-old daughter, Nitara, to highlight the escalating threat of online exploitation among children. Speaking at the inauguration of Cyber Awareness Month 2025 at the Maharashtra State Police Headquarters in Mumbai, Kumar recounted how a stranger, during an online gaming session, requested his daughter to send nude photographs. Demonstrating remarkable presence of mind, Nitara immediately turned off her device and informed her mother about the unsettling encounter. Kumar emphasized that such incidents are the beginning of cybercrimes and stressed the importance of early intervention and awareness.
The actor urged Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, to introduce a mandatory “cyber period” in schools for students in classes 7 to 10. He advocated for weekly lessons on cyber safety, equating the threat of online crimes to that of street crimes, and underscored the necessity of equipping children with the knowledge to navigate the digital world securely. The event was attended by notable figures, including Chief Minister Fadnavis, Maharashtra DGP Rashmi Shukla, senior IPS officer Iqbal Singh Chahal, and actress Rani Mukerji.
Kumar’s appeal highlights a growing concern among parents and educators about the vulnerabilities children face in the digital age. The increasing prevalence of online gaming and social media platforms has exposed minors to potential predators and cyberbullies. Experts agree that integrating cyber safety education into school curricula is crucial to empower students with the skills to identify and respond to online threats effectively.
