Kolkata | 27 February, 2026:New Zealand produced a commanding performance to defeat South Africa by nine wickets in the first semi-final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, securing their place in the tournament’s final with remarkable ease. After being put into bat, South Africa posted 169 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings struggled to gain early momentum as New Zealand’s bowlers kept a tight grip on proceedings. Marco Jansen led the late fightback with an unbeaten 55, while Dewald Brevis contributed 34 runs. Rachin Ravindra and Cole McConchie delivered crucial breakthroughs for New Zealand, restricting the Proteas from reaching a bigger total.

Chasing 170, New Zealand openers Finn Allen and Tim Seifert dismantled the South African bowling attack with a fearless display of power hitting. Allen smashed a sensational unbeaten century off just 33 balls, registering one of the fastest hundreds in T20 World Cup history. Seifert complemented him with a brisk 58 as the pair stitched together a massive opening partnership that effectively ended the contest inside the powerplay. New Zealand raced to 173 for 1 in just 12.5 overs, sealing victory with 43 balls to spare and leaving South Africa stunned despite their previously unbeaten run in the tournament.

The emphatic win propels New Zealand into the T20 World Cup final, where they will face the winner of the second semi-final between India and England, keeping their hopes of lifting the coveted title alive
