Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant challenges Congress leader Harshvardhan Sapkal’s authority to decide on Raj Thackeray’s inclusion in the Maha Vikas Aghadi, highlighting internal disagreements ahead of local elections.

Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) MP Arvind Sawant has raised questions about Congress Maharashtra President Harshvardhan Sapkal’s authority to decide on the inclusion of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance. Sawant’s comments indicate deepening rifts within the MVA ahead of the upcoming local body elections.

In a recent interaction with the media in Akola, Sawant responded to Sapkal’s statement that the Congress would not include Raj Thackeray in the MVA. Sawant questioned, “Does Harshvardhan Sapkal have the authority to make such a decision?” He emphasized that the decision regarding Raj Thackeray’s inclusion in the alliance is a matter for the Shiv Sena and its leadership, particularly party chief Uddhav Thackeray.

Sawant further asserted that the Shiv Sena’s position on Raj Thackeray’s inclusion is firm and has been made clear in the past. He referred to Uddhav Thackeray’s statement during the Dussehra rally, where he indicated that the Shiv Sena’s alliance with Raj Thackeray was for the long term. Sawant added that any decisions regarding the alliance’s composition would be made by Uddhav Thackeray.

The tension between the Congress and Shiv Sena over this issue highlights the complexities within the MVA alliance. While the Congress has expressed reservations about including Raj Thackeray, the Shiv Sena appears committed to strengthening ties with the MNS. This divergence in approach could impact the alliance’s strategy in the forthcoming local body elections.

Sawant also addressed other political matters, including the controversy surrounding a book by Prabodhankar Thackeray and the alleged attack on former Chief Justice Bhushan Gavai. He condemned the actions as detrimental to Maharashtra’s culture and called for strict action against those responsible.

As the local body elections approach, the dynamics within the MVA alliance remain fluid. The differing stances on Raj Thackeray’s inclusion could influence the alliance’s performance and strategies in various regions of Maharashtra.
