Following a lengthy closure for essential infrastructure development, the historic Bhimashankar Temple will reopen its doors to devotees on June 15 under a strictly managed daily entry system

Pune | 02 June 2026: Bhimashankar Temple, one of Maharashtra’s revered Jyotirlingas, is set to welcome pilgrims once again starting June 15, after remaining closed for nearly five months. The temple premises had been restricted to the public since January 9 to facilitate massive infrastructure and development works initiated by the district administration. The upgrades are being executed to prepare the site for the upcoming Nashik Simhastha Kumbh Mela in 2027.
The extensive modernization project includes the construction of a brand-new assembly hall (Sabhamandap), streamlined queues, upgraded sanitation units, drinking water facilities, and optimized traffic management systems. While the district administration initially planned to reopen the shrine by May 31, lingering construction demands pushed the timeline back. Balancing public sentiment with safety, authorities decided to permit access to the shrine while finishing touches are completed.

According to senior officials, the core structural work of the main assembly hall has reached its final phase and is expected to be fully wrapped up by the end of June. Given the massive footfall anticipated during the upcoming Kumbh Mela, long-term crowd management and heightened security protocols have been integrated into the current architecture.
To ensure a smooth transition and avoid overcrowding, an online registration portal will go live on June 15. In the initial phase, entry will be capped at a maximum of 1,000 devotees per day. Visiting hours will be restricted from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM between June 15 and June 30. Registered pilgrims must carry a valid identity card for verification at the entrance. The announcement has sparked widespread joy among Lord Shiva devotees across the state who have been waiting since January to offer prayers.
