A prominent medical association, United Doctors Front, was barred from deposing before a parliamentary committee on NEET-UG irregularities following intense protests and neutrality objections from BJP lawmakers.

June 2, 2026 | New Delhi: The United Doctors Front (UDF), a prominent medical body actively demanding the dissolution of the National Testing Agency (NTA), was prevented from testifying before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education. The exclusion followed strong objections from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmakers during a crucial meeting convened to assess irregularities regarding the NEET-UG examination.

The parliamentary panel, chaired by senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, met to investigate allegations of paper leaks and discuss structural evaluation reforms, specifically comparing pen-and-paper testing with computer-based methods. While representatives from the UDF were formally listed as witnesses, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Bhim Singh intervened, arguing against their inclusion. Supported by other BJP panel members, he contended that the group’s pre-existing legal campaigns against the NTA compromised its status as a neutral witness and risked politicizing the administrative review.

The UDF has actively challenged the current system, having filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court to replace the NTA with an independent, parliament-supervised body equipped with strict anti-leak mechanisms. Following the internal parliamentary dispute, the committee chairman informed the waiting medical representatives that they could not participate in the session.

Expressing disappointment over the exclusion, UDF chairperson Lakshya Mittal stated that the body had submitted its memorandum a week prior. He reiterated their demand for a more accountable examination authority established via an Act of Parliament, citing a lack of auditing mechanisms in the current NTA structure. Meanwhile, opposition leaders criticized the ruling dispensation, pointing out deep-seated systemic failures in higher education examinations and alleging a lack of investigative transparency.
