Central Railway Announces Summer Special Trains From Pune To Manage Surge In Passenger Traffic

Central Railway has announced several special train services from Pune to multiple destinations to manage the expected surge in passenger traffic during the 2026 summer travel season.

Pune | 13 March, 2026: Anticipating a significant rise in passenger movement during the upcoming summer season, Central Railway has announced a series of special train services from Pune to key destinations across the country. The additional services will operate under the Train on Demand (TOD) and Summer Special categories and are scheduled to begin from April 2026.

Railway officials said the move aims to accommodate the seasonal surge in travel, particularly during school vacations and festive periods when passenger demand typically increases across long-distance routes. The newly introduced services will connect Pune with major destinations including Gorakhpur, Danapur, Ghazipur City, and Nagpur, providing additional travel options for passengers.

According to railway authorities, the special trains are expected to ease the burden on regular services that often witness heavy demand during the summer months. With thousands of passengers travelling to their hometowns or holiday destinations, the introduction of extra trains is considered essential to manage crowd pressure and ensure smoother operations.

The Train on Demand (TOD) category allows the railways to introduce services based on passenger demand on specific routes. These trains are typically scheduled when advance bookings indicate high occupancy levels on existing services. Similarly, Summer Special trains are seasonal services operated during peak travel periods to meet additional passenger demand.

Officials noted that Pune is one of the important railway hubs in the region and experiences a considerable increase in outbound travel during the summer season. Passengers travelling to northern and eastern parts of the country, particularly states such as Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, contribute significantly to this seasonal rush.

By introducing these special services, the railway administration aims to improve passenger convenience and reduce waiting lists on regular trains. The additional connectivity is also expected to benefit migrant workers, students, and families travelling during the holiday period.

Railway authorities have indicated that detailed schedules, including train numbers, departure timings, and booking availability, will be released soon. Passengers will be able to check the information through official railway platforms and reservation systems once the schedules are finalized.
