Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police arrest four suspects in two coordinated operations across Mumbai and Solapur divisions, recovering stolen valuables and reinforcing passenger security
Mumbai | 25 February 2026: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Central Railway, working with the Government Railway Police (GRP), has successfully busted a gang involved in thefts from passengers on trains in the Igatpuri‑Kasara Ghat section and the Solapur Division. The coordinated operations resulted in the arrest of four suspects and the recovery of stolen gold jewellery, mobile phones including an iPhone and cash worth over ₹1.5 lakh, officials said.
In the Mangala Express case, officers acting on multiple theft complaints formed a joint task force with GRP and the Crime Prevention and Detection Squad, conducting sustained surveillance along the Igatpuri‑Kasara stretch. On 12 January, two men Ravindra Namdev Dhogande (26) and Karan Bhimrao Bhalerao (19) were apprehended red‑handed while allegedly stealing a passenger’s luggage on Train No. 12618 UP Mangala Express (Ernakulam–Hazrat Nizamuddin). During interrogation, they disclosed an accomplice, Kalpesh Kanu Are (24), who was later arrested from his home in Balvandi. Police recovered gold jewellery and six mobile phones linked to the theft.

In a separate operation on 17 January, the RPF‑GRP team deployed on Train No. 20919 Chennai‑Ektanagar Superfast Express in the Solapur Division intercepted a suspicious man at Dudhani station. The suspect, identified as Gopikrishna (resident of Ballari district, Karnataka), was found to have stolen three mobile phones, an iPhone, a wristwatch, a power bank, chargers and earphones, along with ₹5,100 in cash. He was taken into custody and handed over to GRP/Solapur.

Police have registered cases under the relevant sections of the Indian Railways Act and advised passengers to be vigilant and report suspicious behaviour or incidents by contacting railway authorities or calling 139. Officials praised the coordinated efforts of RPF and GRP personnel in strengthening security and deterring crime on trains.
