ChatGPT has introduced a new personal finance experience inside ChatGPT, allowing users to connect bank accounts, analyse spending habits and ask AI-powered financial planning questions directly within the chatbot.

Artificial intelligence company OpenAI has rolled out a major new feature for ChatGPT users, enabling them to securely connect their financial accounts and receive personalised money management insights powered by AI.
The new “Personal Finance” experience allows users to track expenses, review subscriptions, monitor investments and ask finance-related questions directly inside ChatGPT. The feature is currently being introduced as a preview for Pro subscribers in the United States on web and iOS platforms.
To support the feature, OpenAI has partnered with financial connectivity platform Plaid, which enables integration with more than 12,000 financial institutions including American Express, Bank of America, Chase, Robinhood and Capital One. The company has also confirmed that Intuit integration will be added later this year.
Once accounts are linked, ChatGPT creates a dashboard displaying spending patterns, portfolio performance, upcoming payments, subscriptions and broader financial activity in one place. Users can then ask personalised questions such as planning savings goals, reviewing unnecessary subscriptions or understanding long-term spending behaviour.
OpenAI stated that over 200 million users already ask ChatGPT budgeting and investment-related questions every month, and the company believes its GPT-5.5 model is significantly stronger at handling complex personal finance discussions.
The launch, however, has also sparked privacy and security concerns online. Some users and analysts questioned whether people would feel comfortable granting AI systems access to sensitive financial data, even though OpenAI insists users remain in full control and can disconnect accounts at any time.
OpenAI clarified that ChatGPT can view balances, transactions and liabilities for analysis purposes but cannot access full account numbers or perform transactions such as transferring money or paying bills. The feature marks another major step in the growing integration of artificial intelligence into everyday financial management, as technology companies race to make AI assistants more personalised and context-aware.
