Commercial LPG users across India faced a fresh blow on Wednesday as oil marketing companies raised the price of the 19-kg commercial cylinder by over 10%, increasing rates by nearly ₹195.50. The hike is expected to significantly impact hotels, restaurants, caterers and small food businesses, adding to their operating costs amid rising inflationary pressure. As per the revised rates, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi has climbed to ₹2,078.50. In Kolkata, the rate has surged to ₹2,208, while Mumbai recorded a new price of ₹2,031. Chennai has witnessed the cylinder cost reaching ₹2,246.50. Among the four metro cities, Kolkata has seen the steepest rise, intensifying concerns among traders and hospitality operators.

However, there was some relief for household consumers as the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder has been kept unchanged. In Delhi, the domestic cylinder continues to be priced at ₹913. Still, households are already under pressure after a ₹60 hike introduced in March, which had raised cooking gas expenses for millions of families. Industry sources linked the hike to the sharp rise in international crude oil prices triggered by the escalating conflict in West Asia. Oil companies stated that disruptions in global supply chains due to heightened tensions involving the United States, Iran and Israel have pushed crude prices up by nearly 50% worldwide, directly affecting LPG pricing.

This is the second consecutive increase in commercial LPG prices within a month. Earlier, on March 1, commercial cylinder rates were raised by ₹114.50, and the latest hike is expected to further strain food-related businesses, especially smaller establishments already operating on thin profit margins. Meanwhile, aviation fuel prices have also recorded an extraordinary jump. For non-scheduled, ad-hoc and chartered flights, ATF prices rose sharply from ₹1,10,703.08 per kilolitre to ₹2,07,341.22, marking a massive 114.5% increase. Domestic aviation fuel rates have also been increased by 8.5%, raising fears that air travel could become costlier in the coming days.
