ED Probe Ordered in Ashok Kharat Case; Maharashtra Govt to Seize Illegal Assets

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced an Enforcement Directorate probe into Ashok Kharat’s assets, alleging illegal land deals and financial irregularities, with strict action and property seizure underway.

April 6, 2026 | Nashik Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that the Enforcement Directorate will conduct a detailed investigation into the assets and alleged financial misconduct of Ashok Kharat, accused of amassing wealth through illegal means. Speaking to the media in Nashik, Fadnavis stated that strict action would follow if wrongdoing is established, including the seizure of unlawfully acquired properties. The Chief Minister said that preliminary action has already begun, and authorities will identify lands and assets obtained through illegitimate channels. Once confirmed, such properties will be confiscated by the government. He emphasized that the state is committed to pursuing the case thoroughly and ensuring stringent punishment. So far, 12 cases have reportedly been registered against Kharat.

Fadnavis also raised concerns over the alleged leak of Call Detail Records (CDR) linked to the case. He clarified that access to such records is restricted to investigative agencies, and an inquiry will determine how the information reached activist Anjali Damania. Officials will investigate the source and circumstances of the leak. Meanwhile, developments in the case have taken a dramatic turn, with Kharat’s son Harshvardhan reportedly going missing. His phone has been unreachable, raising suspicions that he may have absconded. Earlier, he had been detained and questioned by police before being released. Family members have not provided clear information regarding his whereabouts.

Additionally, Maharashtra minister Uday Samant has called for a probe into the unidentified individual who allegedly supplied documents related to the case. He asserted that a proper investigation is necessary to uncover the truth behind the circulation of sensitive information. Authorities are also examining allegations of hawala transactions linked to Kharat, reportedly operated through a luxury hotel setup. The probe is expected to widen as agencies track financial trails and possible accomplices.
