Google Clarifies ‘Catch’ in Free YouTube Premium Lite Offer for Jio AI Pro Users

Google has confirmed that users enjoying the complimentary 18-month Google AI Pro subscription through Reliance Jio will not receive free YouTube Premium Lite access during the trial period.

Google’s latest move to bundle YouTube Premium Lite with its Google AI Pro subscription has sparked excitement among users, especially in India where Reliance Jio is already offering free access to Google AI Pro for eligible customers. However, the company has now clarified that there is an important limitation attached to the benefit.

According to Google, the complimentary YouTube Premium Lite subscription will only be available to users who are directly paying for the Google AI Pro plan. Customers currently using the 18-month free Google AI Pro membership through Reliance Jio will not receive the YouTube Premium Lite benefit during the promotional trial period.

The clarification was shared by Google’s Gemini AI subscription product lead Vikas Kansal, who stated that Jio users would become eligible for the YouTube Premium Lite benefit only after converting into paying AI Pro subscribers once their free trial ends.

Google recently announced the inclusion of YouTube Premium Lite with paid Google AI Pro memberships in select countries as part of a broader upgrade to its AI subscription ecosystem unveiled during Google I/O 2026. The Lite plan allows ad-free viewing on most YouTube videos, along with offline downloads and background playback support.

However, YouTube Premium Lite is a stripped-down version of the regular YouTube Premium service and does not include features like YouTube Music Premium, enhanced audio quality or complete ad removal across all content categories. In India, the Lite subscription is priced at ₹89 per month.

Reliance Jio’s partnership with Google has been one of the largest AI-focused telecom collaborations in India, offering eligible Jio users access to Google AI Pro benefits worth ₹35,100 for free over 18 months. The package includes Gemini AI features, 5TB cloud storage and productivity tools integrated across Google services.
