Defense Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the sixth high-level ministerial review meeting to evaluate India’s strategic preparedness, confirming completely stable domestic stockpiles of essential fuel and agricultural fertilizers despite ongoing global disruptions

NEW DELHI | May 28, 2026: The Informal Group of Ministers (IGoM) on West Asia convened its sixth high-level session at Kartavya Bhawan-2 to assess the evolving regional conflict and solidify India’s defensive and economic countermeasures. Headed by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh, the multi-portfolio assembly included several senior cabinet ministers who comprehensively reviewed the resilience of national supply networks and the availability of critical everyday commodities.

The panel confirmed that the country’s fuel infrastructure remains robust and entirely self-sufficient. As the world’s fourth-largest refiner, India boasts an annual capacity of 258.1 MTPA, comfortably outpacing its domestic consumption of 243.2 MT. To shield citizens from international price shocks, public sector Oil Marketing Companies are currently absorbing losses of approximately 550 crore rupees daily by freezing retail prices. However, authorities flagged a trend of industrial commercial entities illegally purchasing protected retail diesel to exploit the subsidized rates. In response, the Ministry, oil corporations, and state governments have significantly intensified field enforcement and crackdowns on black-marketing dealers. Defense Minister Singh reassured citizens that supply lines are fully secure, urging the public to entirely avoid panic-buying of petrol, diesel, or LPG.

Parallelly, the IGoM reviewed the agricultural sector, reporting an exceptionally strong stock position for the upcoming Kharif 2026 season. Against a total estimated requirement of 390.54 LMT, the government has already secured 200.47 LMT accounting for over 51% of the target, which sits drastically higher than the historical average of 33% for this period. To counter the West Asian crisis, an additional 122.4 LMT of fertilizers were rapidly injected via domestic production and newly routed imports.

The Empowered Group of Secretaries has resolved logistical bottlenecks, securing an additional 15 LMT of DAP and 10 LMT of NPKs to arrive at Indian ports through May and June. The administration reiterated its gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foresight in shielding the public from international trade shocks, with the Raksha Mantri emphasizing that maintaining affordable fertilizer channels is crucial to keeping national food prices permanently stabilized.
