Pune administration mandates doorstep LPG delivery within 96 hours using OTP verification, bans direct pickup from agencies, and warns of strict action to ensure transparency and prevent illegal distribution practices
Pune | 17 March, 2026: The Pune district administration has made it mandatory for domestic LPG cylinders to be delivered directly to consumers’ homes within four days of booking, while completely banning direct collection from gas agencies, warehouses, or distribution points.
District Collector Jitendra Dudi issued clear instructions that no cylinders should be distributed through queues or over-the-counter methods. Instead, delivery must strictly follow an OTP-based verification system to ensure transparency and accountability.
The directive comes amid rising concerns over irregularities in distribution and crowding outside gas agencies. Authorities have also instructed agencies to display notices stating that cylinders will only be delivered within 96 hours through OTP verification. In case of crowding, police assistance has been directed to manage the situation promptly.
According to official data, Pune district has over 3.8 million LPG connections serviced through 222 agencies of major oil companies. On March 15 alone, as many as 85,161 cylinders were distributed across the district.
Officials have been asked to increase daily refilling capacity and share real-time data on demand and supply with the administration. Strict monitoring of agency staff has also been ordered to prevent any form of illegal trade or diversion.
District Supply Officer Mahesh Sudhalakar stated that demand has surged nearly threefold due to panic among consumers, but assured that the supply situation is expected to stabilize within a week.
Authorities have warned that any disruption in distribution will invite strict action, while emphasizing that all oil companies and distributors must adhere to government policies to ensure a smooth and fair supply of LPG for both domestic and commercial use.
