HP has announced its return to India’s tablet segment with the launch of the new OmniPad 12, marking the company’s renewed push into the growing market for portable productivity devices. The launch signals HP’s attempt to expand beyond laptops and PCs as demand rises for hybrid devices among students, creators and small businesses.
The OmniPad 12 was unveiled during a product showcase event in Gurgaon and is being introduced in India before other global markets. Company executives described the device as part of HP’s broader strategy to improve technology accessibility in a country where personal computer penetration remains relatively low.
The tablet features a 12-inch display, detachable keyboard support and a Snapdragon processor aimed at balancing portability and productivity. HP positioned the OmniPad 12 as a device capable of handling everyday computing tasks, online learning, video streaming and light office work. Reports indicate the tablet comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage, with pricing in India starting around ₹48,999.
Industry analysts believe HP’s return to the category comes at a time when the Indian tablet market is witnessing renewed interest due to remote work, digital education and demand for affordable computing alternatives. The company also launched several AI-powered PCs and workplace-focused devices alongside the OmniPad 12 as part of its broader “Future of Work” portfolio expansion.
HP had previously experimented with tablets through its TouchPad lineup years ago, but the products failed to establish long-term success against competitors like Apple and Samsung. This time, the company appears focused on practical productivity and India-first adoption strategies instead of competing directly in the premium tablet category.

Technology experts said India’s expanding digital ecosystem and growing student user base could offer HP a strong opportunity to rebuild its presence in the tablet segment. Consumer discussions online have also highlighted increasing demand for versatile tablets suited for education, media consumption and multitasking.
