The Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA) has lodged a formal complaint at Juhu Police Station alleging that paparazzi violated veteran actor Dharmendra’s privacy during his illness, entering his residence and publishing footage without consent.
Mumbai, 13 November 2025 – The Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association has filed a police complaint after paparazzi were accused of violating veteran actor Dharmendra’s privacy during his recent illness. According to the complaint submitted at Juhu Police Station, unverified paparazzi attempted to enter the actor’s residence, recorded videos without consent and circulated them online while the family was dealing with a sensitive health situation. The association described the behaviour as unacceptable, inhuman and a complete breach of personal dignity.
IFTDA president Ashoke Pandit said the incident crossed ethical boundaries, especially because it involved an elderly actor who was not in a position to respond. The complaint mentions that Dharmendra’s family, already under emotional stress, was further distressed by constant media intrusion. A widely shared video of Sunny Deol confronting photographers outside their home highlighted how intrusive the situation had become. The association argued that the right to privacy applies to every citizen, including celebrities, and that the aggressive pursuit of sensational content cannot override basic decency.
The complaint requests police action to identify the individuals responsible and initiate legal proceedings for violating privacy and causing emotional harm. Industry members have also voiced support, saying paparazzi culture has crossed limits in recent years and needs clear regulation. Several actors and filmmakers expressed relief that someone finally took a stand, noting that health-related situations demand sensitivity and restraint, not opportunistic coverage.
The incident has reignited the debate around how far media organisations should go while covering celebrities. Social media reactions were divided, but many users criticised the aggressive nature of paparazzi who ignored boundaries for the sake of clicks. Legal experts say the complaint could set an important precedent if action is taken, reinforcing that personal spaces and health-related matters cannot be exploited without consequences.
As the investigation begins, the situation has opened a broader conversation within the film industry about balancing freedom of the press with fundamental rights. For Dharmendra’s family, the complaint is a step toward ensuring peace and privacy, especially during periods when they most need compassion, not intrusion.
