Infosys Fined Nearly Rs 2 Crore in France Over Working Hours Tracking Lapses

Bengaluru, 27th July 2026: Infosys has been slapped with a fine of nearly Rs 2 crore by authorities in France after inspectors found deficiencies in the company’s mechanism for monitoring employee working hours at its French operations. The penalty highlights growing regulatory scrutiny of Indian IT firms’ labour compliance practices in European markets, where working-time regulations are strictly enforced.

According to sources familiar with the matter, French labour authorities flagged inadequacies in how Infosys recorded and tracked the hours logged by its employees, a requirement under the country’s stringent labour laws designed to prevent overwork and ensure fair compensation. The company is learnt to be reviewing its internal systems to address the gaps identified during the inspection.

The development comes at a time when Infosys is simultaneously tightening attendance requirements for employees at its India offices, part of a broader push across the IT sector to enforce stricter in-office presence following the extended remote-working arrangements of recent years. Several large IT companies have rolled out similar measures, mandating a minimum number of days employees must work from office each week, citing collaboration and productivity concerns.

Industry observers note the contrast between the two developments a fine over insufficient hour-tracking abroad, alongside efforts to enforce closer monitoring of employee presence at home as reflective of the compliance challenges global IT firms face in managing a geographically dispersed workforce across differing regulatory environments.

Infosys has not issued a detailed public statement on the French penalty so far. The company continues to expand its European operations even as it navigates tighter local labour compliance requirements across the markets it operates in.
