Kolhapur Police Crack Down on Gang in Girl Assault Case; Weapons Seized

Kolhapur police arrested a gang after a violent assault on a young woman and seized swords, knives and sticks from the accused. Investigation underway into the gang’s role and weapon supply.
Kolhapur |30 October 2025: In a decisive operation, the crime branch of Kolhapur police raided a gang involved in a brutal assault on a young woman and recovered an arsenal of weapons from their hideout. The raid led to the arrest of several suspects and the seizure of swords, sticks and knives, according to investigative sources.
The assault had alarmed local residents after the victim reported that the attackers had repeatedly threatened her with sharp weapons and inflicted grievous injuries. Acting on tips, the police set up surveillance and traced the gang’s base to a residence in the outskirts of Kolhapur city. Upon entry, officers found the weapons and arrested the key members.
“A large number of prohibited weapons were found. This was not a random attack but looked like a planned assault backed by an organised gang,” said a senior police officer. Investigators suspect the gang may have been involved in multiple assaults and weapon supply in the region.
The arrested include the gang leader and his associates who are now in police custody. They have been booked under sections pertaining to assault, criminal intimidation, illegal possession of weapons and other relevant laws. Further investigations aim to uncover whether this gang had links with wider criminal networks in western Maharashtra.
Local police have also urged residents to share any information about gang activity. They warned that the crackdown will continue and emphasised maintaining public safety, especially in light of rising weapon-related violence.
