Lawyer Among Two Killed in Tragic Road Accident Near Sangli After Overtaking Attempt Fails

Two people, including a Sangli-based lawyer, died in a road accident after a failed overtaking attempt on the Sangli–Kolhapur highway. Police have launched an investigation into the tragic collision.

Sangli| November 1, 2025:A tragic road accident on the Sangli–Kolhapur highway claimed the lives of two people, including a local lawyer, after an overtaking attempt went horribly wrong on Friday evening. The mishap occurred near Sangli when a speeding car tried to overtake another vehicle but lost control and collided head-on with an oncoming truck.

According to the Sangli police, the impact was so severe that both occupants of the car died on the spot. The deceased lawyer, who practiced in Sangli district court, was reportedly returning home after work when the accident occurred. Police officials and emergency responders rushed to the scene and shifted the bodies to Sangli Civil Hospital for post-mortem.

The incident led to heavy traffic congestion on the busy stretch of the highway for nearly an hour. Local eyewitnesses told police that reckless driving and poor visibility during the evening rush might have contributed to the crash.

Authorities have registered a case and are conducting further investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident. The police have once again urged motorists to follow traffic rules, avoid speeding, and exercise caution while overtaking on narrow or crowded highways.

This accident has renewed concerns about the rising number of fatal crashes in Western Maharashtra, particularly on the Sangli–Kolhapur route, where unsafe overtaking and speeding have been identified as recurring causes.
