A bull in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar accidentally swallowed a woman’s mangalsutra during a ritual. After 14 days, vets successfully operated and removed it.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar | November 6, 2025: In a rare and emotional incident in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, a bull swallowed a gold mangalsutra during a ritual ceremony.

The incident happened on October 22 during Pola celebrations when the ceremonial necklace was placed on the bull’s forehead. Locals say the animal treated the jewelry as an offering and accidentally ingested it.

For two weeks, the family and veterinarians waited anxiously. Attempts to recover the mangalsutra by simpler means failed, and concern mounted as days passed without results.

Finally, a veterinary surgery was conducted that lasted about two hours. The operation succeeded in removing the gold mangalsutra from the bull’s stomach without harming the animal.

The procedure was overseen by an experienced veterinarian, following approvals and consultation. Though not widely publicized before, farm-community members say the emotional relief is significant since livestock also holds sentimental value.

Authorities said the cost of surgery was modest compared to the value of saving both the jewelry and the animal’s life. A local official described the bull as part of the household, saying its wellbeing was more precious than any price.

While this medical recovery has drawn smiles and relief in the affected village, it also raises larger questions about safety protocols around animal rituals. Neighbours are calling for greater awareness during such traditions to prevent animals from consuming objects not meant for ingestion.
