Telangana police achieved a significant breakthrough as senior Maoist leader Bandi Prakash surrendered, following sustained security operations and signalling a critical blow to the outlawed CPI (Maoist) network.

Hyderabad | October 29, 2025: In a major anti-Naxal operation, Telugu Desam Maharashtra police announced that Bandi Prakash (alias Prabhat), a senior member of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) (CPI-Maoist), surrendered before the Telangana Director General of Police, B Shivadhar Reddy, in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

Prakash, previously a key strategist in the organisation’s State Committee, cited deteriorating health, ideological fractures and relentless pressure from security forces as motivations for his surrender. His decision follows a “dual strategy” adopted by the Telangana Police—intensive field operations coupled with attractive rehabilitation incentives for cadres willing to lay down arms

Officials revealed that Prakash will receive a rehabilitation package from the state government, previously set at ₹20 lakh for cadres of his level. His exit is viewed as part of a wider trend — with at least 427 underground Maoist cadres in Telangana surrendering thus far in 2025.

Security analysts believe the surrender represents a significant weakening of the CPI-Maoist’s command structure, particularly in its Telangana network. With senior leaders exiting and operational bases disrupted, the movement appears to be entering a fragmented and exposed phase.

The Telangana government and police have reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling left-wing extremist infrastructure by combining law-enforcement action and resettlement offers. Prakash’s surrender is being treated as a tactical victory; authorities say they will continue pursuing remaining cadres and arms caches across the region.
