April 9, 2026 | Pune In response to the recent shortage of commercial LPG cylinders, Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited has stepped up efforts to support hotel and restaurant operators by expanding its piped natural gas (PNG) network across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Over the past few days, the company has provided new PNG connections to more than 40 restaurants located in areas where pipeline infrastructure was already in place. Encouraged by the growing demand, MNGL has set a target to extend commercial gas connections to an additional 100 to 150 establishments, including those in areas currently lacking pipeline access.

Officials attributed the rapid expansion to faster government approvals, particularly permissions for road excavation required to lay pipelines. MNGL has already developed an extensive network of approximately 2,500 kilometers across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, and further infrastructure development is underway to meet rising demand.

The shift toward PNG is also gaining traction among residential consumers. Previously, many tenants preferred LPG cylinders while property owners hesitated to invest in pipeline connections. However, changing circumstances have prompted homeowners to adopt PNG, benefiting tenants with a more reliable and continuous gas supply. Beyond the hospitality sector, MNGL is actively strengthening its presence in industrial areas. The company currently supplies gas to more than 350 industrial clients and over 50 industrial canteens across key hubs such as Bhosari, Chakan, Talegaon, and Hinjewadi. In recent weeks alone, more than 20 industries have been newly connected, with gas supply already operational in over 10 units.

To further expand its customer base, MNGL has launched outreach initiatives including on-ground surveys, distribution of informational materials, and registration drives. These efforts aim to connect more consumers in pipeline-accessible areas and facilitate a smoother transition to PNG. The expansion marks a significant step toward ensuring uninterrupted energy supply for commercial, residential, and industrial users, while reducing dependence on conventional LPG cylinders.
