MSRTC has started electric (e-bus) services between Nashik and Mumbai via the Samruddhi Mahamarg. The new route is expected to reduce travel time by about an hour, thanks to toll-free policy.

Nashik | 17 November 2025: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has rolled out its first electric bus service along the Samruddhi Mahamarg (Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway), beginning with a route from Nashik to Borivali and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar .

By leveraging the state government’s toll-free policy for electric vehicles, MSRTC can now use the high-speed expressway without the heavy cost burden. Because the expressway enables smoother and faster travel, this new service is projected to cut the journey time significantly  from 4.5 to 3.5 hours for Borivali, and from 4 to 3 hours for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Previously, MSRTC did not operate buses on this stretch, mainly because of high toll costs on parts of the expressway.  Now, with the EV policy in place and infrastructure ready, passengers will benefit from both cost and time savings.

The Samruddhi Mahamarg is a six-lane, access-controlled expressway that aims to drastically improve connectivity across Maharashtra. Its fully operational status has also brought down travel times on various routes, making public transportation more efficient.

MSRTC’s move toward e-buses also reflects a broader push for sustainable and green public transport. For commuters between Nashik and Mumbai, this service promises not only convenience but also a cleaner, faster ride.
