Pune Rural hosts 51st Kolhapur Zonal Police Sports Meet with grand opening ceremony

Pune Rural Police inaugurated the 51st Kolhapur Zonal Police Sports Competition in Baramati, with over 1,100 officers participating across multiple events and schools attending to witness disciplined sportsmanship and inspiring performances.

Baramati | 17 November 2025: The Pune Rural Police Force has been given the responsibility of hosting the 51st Kolhapur Zonal Police Sports Competition 2025, which began on Monday at the Police Parade Ground in Baramati. The tournament will continue until November 21.

Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill inaugurated the event in the presence of Additional Superintendent of Police Ramesh Chopde, sub-divisional officers, police inspectors and other officials. The Yamai Halgi Group from Akluj welcomed the dignitaries as they arrived at the parade ground. Later, Baramati Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sudarshan Rathod formally welcomed the guests before the Pune Rural Police band presented a ceremonial salute.

A torch run was led by Constable Shahrukh Sheikh, after which the sports flame was lit by the chief guest. Participating athletes then took the official oath. Officer Rathod praised the Kolhapur zone’s consistent achievement of winning the general championship in the Maharashtra State Police Sports Competition for 11 consecutive years and wished all participants success.

Addressing the gathering, SP Gill encouraged officers to prioritise fitness and maintain discipline throughout the event. He urged participants to compete with fairness and a true sporting spirit.

The competition features seven team events and twelve individual events. More than 900 male and 250 female officers from Pune Rural, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Solapur Rural and Solapur City are taking part. Matches are being held across multiple grounds in Baramati.

Students from local schools also visited to observe the contests and learn about discipline in police sports.

Day one concluded with several medal-winning performances, including victories by athletes from Satara, Pune Rural and Kolhapur.
