A controversial poster stating “Muslims Not Allowed” at Pune’s historic Sinhagad Fort triggered widespread reactions on social media after photographs of it went viral. The poster, which was reportedly displayed near the fort premises, was removed by the Forest Department soon after the matter came to the notice of authorities.
Officials confirmed that the banner had been taken down and said an inquiry has been initiated to identify those responsible for putting it up. The department stated that no permission had been granted for displaying such a poster at the protected heritage site.
The incident quickly gained attention online, with images of the poster being widely shared across social media platforms. The development sparked debate among citizens and drew criticism from several quarters, with many calling for strict action against those responsible.
Authorities said the Forest Department acted immediately after receiving information about the display of the poster. Officials visited the location, removed the banner and began collecting information to determine how it was installed and who was behind it.
Sinhagad Fort is one of Pune’s most visited historical landmarks and attracts thousands of tourists, trekkers and history enthusiasts throughout the year. Given its significance as a public heritage site, officials reiterated that no individual or group is permitted to display unauthorized banners, notices or posters without prior approval.
Police and Forest Department officials are expected to examine available evidence, including CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts, if required, as part of the inquiry. Authorities have appealed to the public to maintain peace and refrain from spreading unverified information or inflammatory content related to the incident on social media.
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of preserving public spaces from unauthorized displays that could disturb communal harmony. Further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing inquiry by the concerned authorities.
