New Delhi | November 22, 2025: The National Cadet Corps is marking its 78th Raising Day with events across the country, beginning with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the National War Memorial in New Delhi on November 22. Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Director General NCC Lt Gen Virendra Vats paid tribute to the fallen heroes on behalf of the organisation, setting a respectful tone for the national celebrations.
Three girl cadets from the Tri-Services also laid a wreath, joining senior leaders in honouring India’s brave soldiers. After the ceremony, the gathering witnessed a band presentation by NCC cadets from Delhi schools, adding a ceremonial note to the occasion.

Founded in 1948 with just 20,000 cadets, the NCC has grown to become the world’s largest uniformed youth body, now comprising almost 20 lakh cadets. Between 2014 and 2025 alone, the organisation added nearly 6 lakh new members. Its presence has expanded to 713 out of 780 districts, making it one of India’s most widespread youth institutions.
Across states and union territories, cadets marked the day with public-service activities including blood donation camps, tree plantation drives, cleanliness initiatives under ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’ and anti-drug awareness campaigns as part of Nasha Mukti Abhiyaan. These programmes underscored the NCC’s commitment to environmental care, social responsibility and community welfare.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Defence Secretary praised the NCC’s wide-ranging contributions, from disaster-response training under the Apda Mitra initiative to adventure achievements like the NCC Mt. Everest expedition. He also highlighted the inclusion of drone and cyber training in the curriculum, reflecting the organisation’s focus on preparing cadets for modern challenges.

As the NCC celebrates its 78th Raising Day, it continues evolving into a future-ready institution, shaping disciplined, socially conscious and technologically skilled youth dedicated to building a stronger and more developed India.
