Pune, October 19, 2025 – In a significant political development in Pune, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Rupali Patil has demanded the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament (MP) Medha Kulkarni. The demand comes after allegations surfaced that religious activities, specifically a prayer session, were conducted at the historic Shaniwar Wada during Kulkarni’s visit.

Patil, who serves as a spokesperson for the NCP and is closely associated with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, accused Kulkarni of deliberately creating religious discord in the city. She emphasized that Shaniwar Wada, a symbol of Pune’s Maratha heritage, belongs to the people of Pune and not to any individual or political party. Patil further stated, “Kulkarni is attempting to disturb the communal harmony between Hindus and Muslims in Pune, which has been maintained for generations.”

The controversy erupted when a video surfaced on social media showing a prayer session at Shaniwar Wada, leading to widespread speculation about the intentions behind the gathering. Supporters of Kulkarni claim that the event was a peaceful historical observance, while critics argue that it was a politically motivated act aimed at polarizing communities ahead of the upcoming municipal elections.
