MLA Rohit Pawar stated that the two factions of the NCP will reunite only if the Ajit Pawar group demonstrates the willingness and courage to oppose the BJP
PUNE | MAY 16, 2026: Nationalist Congress Party (SP) leader and MLA Rohit Pawar has laid down a definitive condition for any potential reunification between the two fractured factions of the NCP. Speaking to media personnel following a crucial party meeting at Sinchan Bhavan, Rohit Pawar clarified that a merger or alliance between the groups is completely off the table unless Ajit Pawar’s faction actively decides to fight against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the welfare of the common public. He emphasized that local party workers remain deeply upset, and their resentment will not fade until a clear anti-BJP stance is officially adopted.

The statement comes right ahead of the NCP foundation day scheduled for June 10, ahead of which veteran leader Sharad Pawar has been holding high-level institutional meetings. Commenting on reports of leaders like Sunil Tatkare or Praful Patel meeting the senior Pawar, Rohit insisted that organizational changes and planning are standard, but the core ideological stance against the BJP remains completely non-negotiable for any future reconciliation.

Beyond the political restructuring, Rohit Pawar raised serious concerns regarding the deteriorating agricultural crisis in rural Maharashtra. He expressed intense anger over the current fuel shortage, noting that diesel rationing at petrol pumps is forcing farmers to scramble for resources. Furthermore, he condemned the state utilities for executing frequent power cuts between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM the peak hours when farmers extract milk and tend to their fields.
To challenge the government’s policy failures regarding onion cultivators and basic rural infrastructure, he announced a massive state-level protest in Nashik on May 18, while additionally slamming the failing law and order situation in Pune.
