In Mandukli village, Gaganbawda taluka, villagers approved a no-confidence motion against Sarpanch Rajaram Patil by 612-216 votes, leaving the post vacant amid rising local dissent.
Gaganbawda (Kolhapur)| October 29, 2025: In a decisive political move, the acoustic atmosphere of Mandukli village in Gaganbawda taluka was punctuated yesterday by the passing of a no-confidence motion against Sarpanch Rajaram Patil. According to official figures, 612 members voted in favour of the motion while 216 opposed it, with 48 votes declared invalid—resulting in a clear majority of 396 in favour.
The vote was conducted during a village‐assembly (gram sabha) chaired by the taluka’s group development officer, Almas Sayyed, as the administrative officer on duty for the day. The gathering registered strong participation from locals who had long expressed dissatisfaction with the Sarpanch’s performance.
With the motion’s approval, the Sarpanch post has become officially vacant, prompting the appointment of interim oversight until new elections can be held. Sources say the reasons cited by villagers included grievances over governance, alleged inaction and a demand for greater accountability.
Local governance experts note that such a large margin reflects mounting discontent in remote areas, especially where development expectations remain unmet. A senior district official commented that the outcome signals the community’s readiness to exercise democratic safeguards under the Panchayati Raj system.
The administration has now initiated the formal process of notifying the vacancy and scheduling a fresh election for the post of Sarpanch. Meanwhile, Patil’s supporters are reportedly exploring legal remedies and may challenge the motion’s procedures.
