PCMC new civic chief prioritizes basic services, cracks down on illegal construction, plans long-term water solutions, and promises strict action against negligent officials while focusing on pollution control and infrastructure growth
Pimpri-Chinchwad | 17 March, 2026: Newly appointed Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi has made it clear that illegal constructions will not be tolerated in Pimpri-Chinchwad, warning of strict action against both violators and responsible officials.
After formally taking charge from outgoing commissioner Shravan Hardikar on Monday, Dr. Suryawanshi outlined his administrative priorities while interacting with the media. He stated that solving basic civic issues would remain at the core of his governance approach, alongside strengthening revenue streams and improving essential services such as drinking water supply, healthcare, and education.
Addressing the long-standing issue of unauthorized constructions, he said any such activity will invite immediate action, and accountability will be fixed on concerned regional officers. He also indicated that the long-pending red zone map will soon be released to bring clarity and control over restricted areas.

Highlighting environmental concerns, the commissioner pointed out that rising pollution levels in the city are alarming. He assured that the administration will identify key causes, including construction dust, and implement strict corrective measures to improve air quality.
Water supply remains another major concern due to the city’s rapidly growing population, which has now crossed 3.8 million. Dr. Suryawanshi said planning will be aligned with future needs, keeping the next 25 years in mind. He emphasized completing the Pavana closed pipeline project and finishing pending work on the Bhama Askhed water scheme within six months, which is expected to add 167 MLD of water supply. Efforts are also underway to source an additional 100 MLD from the Andra dam.
